Description

Twelve influential people are dead. No fingerprints. No witnesses. No forced entry. And no human explanation. Across four states, twelve high-profile officials—judges, federal prosecutors, a DEA agent, and a prison warden—are found dead in their own homes. Each death is identical: the victim seated, neck snapped backward with surgical precision. Beside everybody lies a handwritten confession and files documenting wrongful convictions, abuse of power, and lives destroyed by the justice system. Forensic experts reach an impossible conclusion: There is no evidence of human involvement. With public fear mounting and political pressure exploding, the government needs answers fast. Their investigation leads to an unlikely place: Marion Federal Prison Camp in Illinois, where a group of inmates openly practice Satanic worship. Nine inmates were arrested. The government’s theory is as shocking as it is desperate: The murders were committed through supernatural, satanic forces. To support their case, law enforcement plants an undercover investigator inside the prison camp. What he discovers changes everything. The accused inmates are not violent extremists—but broken men: cancer patients, first-time offenders, wrongfully convicted citizens crushed by prosecutorial abuse, judicial bias, and institutional corruption. Still, the government presses forward. The case bypasses lower courts and lands directly in the United States Supreme Court, becoming one of the most controversial trials in American history. On live television, federal prosecutors argue about the existence of supernatural murders. Defense attorneys dismantle the case piece by piece, exposing fabricated investigations, political scapegoating, and a justice system willing to abandon science to protect itself. As testimony unfolds, a terrifying question emerges: If the inmates didn’t do it—who did? And more disturbingly: What is the government hiding behind the lie of “supernatural forces”?

Character Profiles

MEET THE CHARACTERS

Dark Power Series — Book One
By Dr. Naeem Meo

A judge is murdered in the cleanest crime scene a veteran detective has ever seen. As the investigation widens, it uncovers a pattern of prosecutions, convictions, and buried truths reaching from a Missouri courthouse to the halls of the Supreme Court. The Eastern District follows the detectives, journalists, attorneys, and the wrongfully convicted caught inside a system built to protect its own. Meet the people who carry this story — and discover just how much each of them is willing to risk before the final page.

Gerald Hunter

“A Sunday afternoon off, a phone call about the cleanest crime scene he’s ever seen, and a case that eventually pulls him somewhere he never expected to end up.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A seasoned detective called in on a high-profile homicide with no forced entry and no easy answers, Gerald follows a widening pattern that leads him from a judge’s murder into the heart of a system built to protect itself.

PERSONALITY

Grounded, observant, and stubbornly persistent, Gerald has the instincts of a man who has seen enough cases to know when something doesn’t add up, and the discipline to keep pulling the thread even when it leads somewhere dangerous.

BACKGROUND

A veteran investigator used to reading crime scenes for what they don’t show as much as what they do, Gerald built his career on patience and pattern recognition.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Following the case wherever it actually leads, even once it stops looking like an ordinary homicide investigation.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What does a detective do when the case he’s investigating turns out to be less about one murder and more about who the system decides is guilty?

Jennifer Hunter

“A senior reporter who believes journalism isn’t about chasing outrage. It’s about exposing the pattern underneath it.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A senior reporter for the St. Louis Tribune investigating healthcare prosecutions and mass incarceration, Jennifer’s reporting increasingly intersects with the same case consuming Gerald.

PERSONALITY

Sharp, relentless, and driven by clarity rather than sensationalism, Jennifer approaches even the most chaotic stories with a commitment to getting the facts exactly right.

BACKGROUND

A respected investigative journalist with a track record of covering local corruption, federal policy, and prison reform, Jennifer has built a reputation for asking the questions others avoid.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Exposing a pattern of injustice hidden behind legal language and closed courtrooms, regardless of the powerful enemies that reporting creates.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What happens when a journalist’s biggest story starts hitting closer to home than she ever expected?

Agent Angie Collins

“The call that starts it all: a high-profile homicide, a secure neighborhood, and no forced entry.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A federal agent who brings Gerald into the investigation of a judge’s murder, Angie becomes a key partner as the case reveals connections far beyond a single crime scene.

PERSONALITY

Direct and no-nonsense, Angie communicates in short, urgent bursts, someone who has learned not to waste words when the situation demands action.

BACKGROUND

An experienced federal agent trusted with sensitive, high-profile cases, Angie’s instincts about this particular murder prove sharper than anyone initially realizes.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Getting to the truth behind a murder that refuses to behave like a typical homicide.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

How much does Angie already suspect about where this investigation is really headed?

Dr. Ahmad Khan

“A physician convicted for using a knee gel. The kind of case that looks ordinary on paper, and isn’t ordinary at all.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

An incarcerated physician whose Medicare fraud conviction becomes a central thread in the story’s exploration of a justice system that appears to target very specific people very deliberately.

PERSONALITY

Composed and quietly dignified despite years of incarceration, Dr. Khan carries the particular weariness of a man who has had a long time to understand exactly how he ended up where he is.

BACKGROUND

A physician who completed his residency in Indiana and built a medical practice before an old billing dispute became the foundation for a conviction that would upend his life and his family’s.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Understanding, and eventually explaining, exactly how a routine medical billing matter became a life-altering prosecution.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What does Dr. Khan’s case reveal about the pattern Gerald and Jennifer are only beginning to piece together?

Ashley Smith

“The attorney trusted to represent the case everyone else was too careful to touch.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A defense attorney who takes on one of the story’s most consequential legal battles, Ashley Smith becomes central to the courtroom fight over the pattern of prosecutions Gerald and Jennifer have uncovered.

PERSONALITY

Composed, sharp, and unflinching under institutional pressure, Ashley approaches an uphill legal fight with the precision of someone who understands exactly what she’s up against.

BACKGROUND

A skilled attorney willing to take on a case most of her peers would consider unwinnable, Ashley steps into a legal battle that reaches all the way to the nation’s highest court.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Building a case strong enough to challenge a pattern of prosecutions few in power want reexamined.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What does it take to represent a case everyone expects you to lose?

Dr. Christopher Hale

“Head of BAU-2, called in whenever a crime stops fitting any pattern the Bureau has cataloged before.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A forensic psychologist and BAU-2 special agent, Dr. Hale brings behavioral profiling expertise to the investigation, helping decode the mind behind a pattern of crimes that defies easy classification.

PERSONALITY

Analytical and precise, Hale communicates complex psychological patterns with clarity, providing investigators with the framework they need even when the implications are unsettling.

BACKGROUND

A respected figure in the Bureau’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, Hale has spent his career identifying patterns in the minds of offenders that ordinary investigation alone can’t surface.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Building an accurate psychological profile of the pattern behind the case, no matter how far it reaches.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What does the country’s leading behavioral profiler see in this case that no one else has been able to name yet?

Ethan Tucker

“A senior crime analyst and investigative journalist with a front-row seat to a case that keeps getting bigger.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

An investigative journalist covering the unfolding case alongside Jennifer, Ethan Tucker brings his own expertise and perspective to the growing public reckoning over the pattern of prosecutions.

PERSONALITY

Sharp and methodical, Ethan pursues the story with the seasoned instincts of someone who has covered plenty of complex cases, but recognizes this one is different.

BACKGROUND

A senior crime analyst and journalist with deep experience covering the legal system, Ethan’s investigative work intersects with Jennifer’s as the case’s true scope comes into focus.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Getting the full story into public view, however far up the chain of power it goes.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

How far is Ethan willing to push a story that keeps implicating people more powerful than the last?

Joe Ramirez

“Private investigator. Former detective. The kind of man who knows exactly where the official record stops telling the truth.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A private investigator and former detective, Joe Ramirez lends his skills to uncovering details the official investigation can’t, or won’t, pursue.

PERSONALITY

Seasoned and unflinching, Joe brings the instincts of a career detective to work outside the usual institutional constraints, willing to go where official channels won’t.

BACKGROUND

Having left law enforcement to work independently, Joe has built a reputation for finding what official investigations miss, a skill that becomes essential to the unfolding case.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Uncovering the truth using every resource and connection built over years as both a cop and an independent investigator.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What does a former detective see in this case that the department he used to work for refuses to?

Martin Hale

“U.S. Prosecutor, fighting a case piece by piece that keeps threatening to come apart in his hands.”

ROLE IN THE STORY

A United States prosecutor representing the government’s position as the case builds toward the Supreme Court, Martin Hale becomes the institutional voice defending a system increasingly under scrutiny.

PERSONALITY

Determined and methodical, Martin approaches an increasingly difficult case with the discipline of a career prosecutor, even as the evidence complicates his position.

BACKGROUND

A veteran federal prosecutor entrusted with defending the government’s case at the highest level, Martin finds himself fighting harder than expected to hold his position together.

WHAT DRIVES THEM

Winning a case that keeps growing more complicated the deeper the opposition digs.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW THEM

What does it cost a prosecutor to keep defending a system he’s no longer entirely sure deserves defending?
